Nike Air Griffey Max 1 Cincinnati Reds
-
Detail
The Swoosh celebrates the latter part of Ken Griffey’s Hall of Fame-worthy career with this latest “Cincinnati Reds” colourway. Tracy Teague, a name that is associated with some of Nike’s best Basketball shoes, designed the Griffeys which saw a ’96 debut. Speaking of debuts, this will be the first time that the Air Griffey Max 1s will see the Cincinnati Red cladding.
As was the fashion for much 90s-born athletic-based footwear, the signature Griffey strap bearing an embossed “Nike” remains untouched, doused in a red like on the “Atomic Mango” pair from 2014. Griffey’s player number and mini-Swoosh on the strap seal are adorned in the grey that dominates the rest of the upper, completing the strap’s usual detailing. The undulating midsole pattern also returns in all its glory, closely following the Air unit tooling from the Air Max 95. The embossed Swoosh sits neatly on the supple leather that forms the toe box, balanced between the various panels that yet again speak to the athletic design ethos of the 90s. The Swoosh has hit two birds with one stone on this release, pleasing the fans of Griffey’s less celebrated Cincinnati era while giving fans of the Griffey Max 1 silhouette a solid new colourway.
